DRESDENER STRASSE

ATTIC EXPANSION, WILHELMINIAN BUILDING, BERLIN, 2014
Jürgen Klopp, Borussia Dortmund coach, once said that football is about nothing but creating opportunities, goals would then be scored in any case – somehow and sometime. What applies to football must not be inappropriate for architecture. The loft conversion in Dresdner Strasse 177 serves as a viable piece of evidence for this theory: Opportunities were created which you wouldn’t even suppose existed. Back in the days in their parents’ home in their far too small nurseries, every girl and every boy had dreamed of how it would be if Dad would just expand the attic. Down with the junk, more light, new floorings, paint the walls, done. Never did this dream come true, and if it did, it turned into a nightmare because the easiest things are sometimes the most difficult.
